Morgan's April Pick

by Wendy Welch

I am, as you may have guessed, somewhat of a book enthusiast. However, my love of books extends beyond just books themselves to everything book related. I love bookstores, bookmarks, movies about books (but often not movies of my favorite books cough cough Harry Potter), book clubs, book lights, bookshelves, book blogs and more than anything BOOKS ABOUT BOOKS!

So this month I bring you The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap the story of a married couple who, like me, love books and decided that owning a bookstore was a fabulous idea that would bring them happiness, fulfillment and an excuse to "waste" a bunch of time perusing a bookstore. And it did, it was just a little more complicated than originally anticipated. For those of you who are thinking that opening a bookstore might be in your future, read this book! It is designed to answer silly questions, offer helpful hints and share the deep incredible experiences made possible by owning a bookstore. For those of you who think people who want to own bookstores are crazy, also read this book!

In a time when the fabulous brick and mortar stores we depend on are disappearing this book highlights everything inherently wonderful in a locally owned bookstore owned by people who just love books. The stories are touching, the local characters are hilarious and the small town atmosphere leaps right off of the page. Reading this book is almost as good as visiting MainStreet BookEnds (I said almost) and if you haven't been able to visit for awhile it might hold you over until you can come back. But come back soon! As we all know there is nothing quite like a great book recommended by good friends.
